Rain stings when you ride in the back of a truck

Last night after our cave lecture it started raining... and didn't
stop. At breakfast, they changed the plans on us because of the rain,
and we decided to spend the entire morning underground. We went to a
place called lighthouse cave, which required not only caving and
climbing, but lots of swimming too! There were plenty of bats flying
all around our heads and we were covered in guano (bat droppings) when
we left, but it was so much fun.

In the afternoon, we were dropped off in a tidal stream with snorkels
and masks and the stream pulled us from the inner island all the way
out to the ocean as the tide went out. It was a long snorkeling trip,
and it was pouring rain at times, but it was nice to just float along.
We were there to observe the sediment transportation- which was really cool, but we also saw a
stingrays and lionfish, as well as tons of other cool stuff. Today was lots of fun. Katia got stung by a few jellyfish, but she's okay. It's her own fault for rolling around on the sand bars.

Tonight we're going to learn about the geography of the island, and
after tomorrow, we'll be starting our own research projects.

The heat hasn't been bad, but the bugs have been. Lots of mosquitoes and "no see ums" that chew us up whenever there's no wind. Katia counted over 70 bites when she got back to the room tonight.

Katia found out that for $50, she can adopt a "potcake"
puppy... I'm resisting.
