After dinner we went to Douglas Island to hit the beach. It was a short walk through old growth rainforest to get to the water, and the woods had such a fresh smell; so rich with plant life.
There were a few other people with campfires and picnic dinners- which is common on the solstice, but apparently they couldn't resist celebrating this rare sunny day in June. We splashed around in the water and played with hermit crabs in the tide pools. Here's a photo of Katia eating "sea lettuce":
During our ride home (around 10:30), everyone on Douglas Island was outside watching the spectacular sunset. We stopped to watch the sun set over Juneau. Tomorrow afternoon we head to Gustavus!
