Gustavus

Breakfast was fresh picked rhubarb crumble (see Katia and Lisa picking it below) and sourdough pancakes with homemade spruce tip syrup.

After breakfast, we went on a bike ride with Erin.  We rode across town to the land that Lisa & Jim are hoping to build a house on next year.  We were able to see the yurt and bath house that they lived in until recently.  We were able to "break in" and sneak a peak.  From there, we continued our ride to the Nagoonberry trailhead. Our hike out to the beach was beautiful!

The sun was shining and Erin identified the unknown  plant life to us. Once on the beach, we took off our shoes and walked in the sand, clay and water. We saw clams spraying up water and sea anemones waiting for the tides cover.

On the way back to Lisa & Jim's we stopped at a lunch truck and enjoyed rockfish fish tacos. After a nap and shower, we joined Jim, Cooper, and the yet-to-be-named puppy for a trip to the community gardens. There were two areas, one fenced in, where crops that moose like to eat can be grown, and a field area where crops that moose aren't interested in can be grown.  Jim tended to the crops while we entertained Cooper and puppy.

We stopped at Pep's, the local fish packer, and picked up some king salmon for dinner and some smoked halibut for a snack.

Andrew arrived in Gustavus in the early evening, and we all enjoyed a king salmon dinner with sides of red potatoes and homegrown kale and carrots.  After dinner we took it easy, but had a few drinks.  Andrew and Erin headed back to the Glacier Bay Lodge and we prepared for an early morning day cruise!
