Cooling down

With 4 full days left, we're feeling a bit of a time crunch on
everything we wanted to do and people and places that we hoped to
visit. We spent yesterday afternoon and evening exploring the castle
in Baalbek, which was incredible. The Roman ruins have been so well
preserved, despite post-war rubble just blocks away! We got lots of
photos, but I didn't think to take any with the phone, so
unfortunately we have nothing to share now.

Afterwards we picked up some chicken shwarma (pita sandwich with
chicken shaved from a spinning pile of meat, pickles of some sort, and
garlic sauce). It was delicious, but It came too soon after a huge
feast that we had at Katia's aunt Afaf's house.

The food is incredible, and I'm not sure what I'll do when we get
home. There's nothing like it around us. For breakfast today we had
jibneh (cheese pies), Zatar, and kischk (pita filled with a sour milk
& wheat type filling). It was delicious. The coffee is still too
strong for me to enjoy, but I'm enjoying the Nescafe and milk that
they make. Both are made with too much sugar for my liking, but "just
a little bit of sugar" was one of my first phrases that I learned in
Arabic.

Weather is great after the heat wave passed! It'll be hard to leave,
but we do miss our animals. We learned today that Piper, cute little
border collie foster dog, will be adopted before we return! She still
needed a lot of training, so we were looking forward to seeing her
next week, and are sad to miss her. A forever home is even better.

P.S.
Most writing is from me because Katia has to be social with her
family. It's actually easier to do on the phone because when the
laptop comes out, kids surround me looking for photos and videos.
Having a great time but looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
